UP and coming young rider Kerys Anderson of Hillvale Livery Stables, Tillington, is fast making a name for herself – and also for the horses she rides.
This year Kerys has collected a good share of rosettes and cups with her two warm blood horses, Milly May (8) and The Big Fellow (8) and last month won the cross country and show jumping Derby Championships held at Tack Farm Equestrian Centre, Ullingswick.
Kerys has a good partnership with Milly, who she had as a foal, but is also making excellent strides with newly-acquired The Big Fellow.
“Milly was born at the stables so I’ve had her all her life. I am the only person who has ever ridden her and she knows me and knows what I want from her. I am with her all the time as I work at the yard, so I have ample time to teach her and learn myself.
“I’ve only had The Big Fellow since this summer and that was because he wasn’t doing anything, but his owner knew he had a lot of potential so asked me to take him on. He just loves to jump,” said Kerys.
The 22-year-old who competes in cross country and show jumping events all over the country was trained by her mother who has in the past represented Great Britain in the show jumping arena.
Kerys who now hopes to take her hobby to a new level and go into the business of helping to train young horses, has set up a competition livery where she will train a horse for its owner.
“Sometimes I’m asked to bring on a young horse or I may be asked to hop on one that has a few problems to see if I can sort it out,” she said.
