Stirring Ladies’ Open finish

THE highlight of the rearranged Brecon and Talybont Hunt meeting was the stirring finish to the Ladies’ Open race which had the sun-drenched crowd cheering as the odds-on favourite Pirate Flagship just the took the honours, writes GRAHAM SAVEKER.

Ridden by Angela Rucker, the Worcestershire runner Pirate Flagship was sent off odds-on in the small field of four. But over the final three fences, it was clear that she had not shaken off the attentions of Neeophyte and Lorna Brooke and both horses were in the air together at the last. It was only in the dying strides of the run-in that the favourite asserted to win by a neck.

Novice rider sensation, Rhys Flint, scored another winner on his quest to take the novice riders title when he scored by six lengths in the final Maiden race of the day on Kinsale King, scoring. He is now on the 22-winner mark.

Sixteen-year-old rider David Prichard took the opening Members race aboard Mountain Lily upsetting favourite backers as Roughty Man could only finish third.
