Trio prove winning worth

THE triumvirate of owner Clive Hitchings, trainer Andy Hobbs and rider Adrian Wintle again proved worth following at the North Ledbury Hunt meeting at Maisemore on Bank Holiday Monday as their Saint Reverien easily scored in the Men’s Open race, writes GRAHAM SAVEKER.

Leading on the final bend in the five runner race, Wintle pushed his mount out to record a smooth eight-length win and so compensate connections for a fall last time out.

Kerry Lee, daughter of professional trainer Richard Lee, scored another winner in her developing career as the Presteigne livery trainer herself scored with Lough Rynn in the Restricted Open race.

Ridden by 18-year-old Ben Poste, attached to Lee Senior’s yard, who was riding his first winner, Lough Rynn led at the third-last fence and stayed on strongly to win by 12-lengths.

In-form jockey David Mansell scored another at the meeting when he was aboard Gothic Charm in the Confined race. And he looked to be scoring a double as Maddies Dream went clear approaching the final fence in the young horse Maiden only for his mount to veer sharply across the course and slow to a stop before only clambering over the final fence.

The race went to the Micky Harris-ridden Monty’s Moon with Mansell only in third place.

Maiden 8 to +: 1. Honourable Collins (G Barfoot Saunt) 3/1, 2. Red Ringa 13/2. Only two finished 8 ran.
