BUDDING young mechanics from two county primary schools have swapped the classroom for the garage.
St Peter's and Brockhampton pupils have been getting their hands dirty in a competition to build a model car engine.
Last November, Haynes Publishing and Bromyard firm Holden Vintage and Classic Ltd, challenged youngsters to construct the model before leading a presentation on their work, and cars in general.
The prize was a fully-paid trip to the Haynes Motor Museum, near Yeovil - but the judging on March 17 finished in a dead-heat and both schools are now on the fast lane to Somerset.
Don MacLean, of Holden Vintage, called the competition a success and said it could involve more schools in the future.
"I saw their presentations and was very impressed with their work," said Mr MacLean.
"Haynes also do a small model of a gas turbine, so if we run the project again we'll invite more schools."
