A COUNTY college has played host to more than 40 Birmingham students.

Herefordshire College of Technology welcomed students from the second city’s St Alban’s Specialist Engineering College to its Holme Lacy base, and delivered a day full of rural pursuits.

The 11 to 12-year-olds tried their hands at blacksmithing, clay shooting and tree felling.

The aim of the visit was to give them an idea of possible career prospects available to them.

St Alban’s teacher, Janet Tchamani, said: “Everyone had a favourite moment, whether it was seeing a new born calf, meeting a horse for the first time, hitting a clay pigeon or watching a lump of metal being turned in to a leaf.”
