A CITY primary school has become the first in Hereford-shire to receive a top prize for its environmental work.

Infants and juniors at Lord Scudamore School, Friar Street, were awarded Streets-cene charter certificates during a special school assembly.

Lord Scudamore already displays Streetscene signs in its playground and last summer pupils took part in a litter pick at the nearby Sainsbury’s store.

Herefordshire Council has since handed the school a special bear litter bin, with the message ‘Litter, we can’t bear it’.

John Bobin, Streetscene manager, said: “It is important children understand the need to keep the county clean and tidy and I hope they will now spread the message to their parents and other adults,” he said.

Streetscene is run by Herefordshire Council, in partnership with Amey Wye Valley, and aims to keep the county clean through various initiatives such as a special hotline for reporting graffiti and vandalism.
