A COURT clerk who racked up almost 48 years’ service in Hereford has been honoured for his long career.
Richard Thomas retired on his 65th birthday and last week was presented with the Imperial Service medal.
The Credenhill man began his County Court career at the former offices in St Owen Street in 1962.
The following year the court moved to nearby Broadway House before setting up home above Barclays Bank on Broad Street where it remains today.
Mr Thomas said he was glad his job lasted longer than his first position as a bank clerk at Hereford’s old National Provincial branch (now Natwest) which ended after just six months.
His court role saw him oversee cases relating to matters as diverse as bankruptcy, damages claims and divorce proceedings.
He said he is taking retirement “each day as it comes” but now has more time to indulge his hobby of fairgrounds and steam traction engines.
