ORGANISERS of the 2010 Ledbury Carnival have hailed the Bank Holiday outing a great success.
Those behind it, including committee chairman Steve Clegg, were thrilled when a throng of revellers took to the streets in brilliant sunshine in celebration of this year’s theme of transport and travel.
Thomas and Vanessa Roxburgh were among those who made the effort by entering as a race car with help from their pony Beauty, as were staff and supporters from Leadon Bank care centre, who used their float to depict travel throughout the ages.
Carnival princess Charlotte Jeffreys-Hall and her attendants Karla Alvear and Isabella Bills-Geddes also enjoyed their moment in the spotlight, as did senior fancy dress winner Carol Somers, who went as a Victorian lady and took a penny farthing with her.
■ Meanwhile, a huge entry ensured the annual Dragon Boat racing event on the River Wye went swimmingly.
Fourteen crews made up of county-based businesses and charities joined teams of friends for the race, which took place on the stretch of water close to Hereford Rowing Club.
Money raised from the race, which saw hundreds watching from the riverbank, will go to Macmillan Cancer Support. Other events, including stalls and fairs, raised funds for other good causes, including Midlands Air Ambulance.
