Paul Deneen from Ross-on-Wye named in New Year's Honours

EDUCATION, policing, law, healthcare – there are few areas of county life that Paul Deneen hasn’t been actively involved in to earn his OBE which he dedicates to the “sacrifices” of his parents in setting him on course.

Since graduating as a teacher in 1978, Mr Deneen, from Ross-on- Wye, has chaired West Mercia Police Authority, served as a senior magistrate and campaigned for both a community hospital and Citizens’ Advice branch in Ross.

Right now he’s non-executive director of NHS Herefordshire and will be until 2013. He remains on the police authority, which he chaired between 2005-2009 and is a member of both the board of the Association of Police Authorities and a governor of the National College of Policing and Leadership at Bramshill.

A Deputy Lieutenant of Herefordshire, he can also be found sitting on regional employment tribunals and partnering the Postgraduate and Medical Educational Training Board among his varied public works.

A part-time teaching post at John Kyrle High School and Sixth Form Centre in Ross keep him in touch with his roots. And roots are where he goes back to in thanking those who, over the years, he says have brought him to his OBE.

“I dedicate this award to my late parents who sacrificed a considerable amount to allow me to obtain my degree and enter the teaching profession,” said Mr Deneen.

“During my 30 years in Herefordshire, it has been a privilege and honour to work alongside colleagues in schools, courts, local government, health and policing who have been dedicated to serving the public,” he said.
