A little piece of home for Kathy

A COUNTY resident managed to find a little bit of home in a faraway land recently.

Kathy Hunt, who lives near Much Marcle, got a shock when she opened the South China Morning Post during a break in Hong Kong to find a full-page feature on Eastnor Castle staring her in the face.

The landmark – less than 10 miles from Kathy’s house – was brought to the attention of the 53-year-old and her husband Al by a Scottish couple staying in the same hotel.

“The guy brought the article down as I hadn’t even had the chance to open the paper and there it was in all its glory,”

Kathy said.

Welsh-born Kathy was especially proud of the piece – a county profile for the travel section by Big Chill organiser Katrina Larkin – after developing a firm affection for the place herself, and has since sold the idea of a Herefordshire break to her fellow holidaymakers after giving them her address.

The property developer, currently recovering from her second bout of breast cancer, said she couldn’t stay away after first moving to Llangrove 36 years previously, and returned to live here almost a decade ago after a 10-year break.

“We were always going to come back,” she said. “I am so proud to live in Herefordshire.”
