BRIGHTWELLS are pleased to report another successful ram show and sale at Hay-on-Wye market on September 20.

Alongside the normal quality consignments were several new vendors showing at Hay for the first time and all sheep met much interest from the large crowd of purchasers.

Leading the way was the annual draft from Bill Edwards and family, Penwaun who again lifted the Dick Edwards Perpetual Cup for the best ram in show and went onto to sell twice at 740gns, then 720gns and 700gns.

Owen Watkins bought forward his excellent pen of Texel rams selling to 630gns and again at 600gns. Selling for the first time at Hay Mr Michael Pugh, Sheepcote sold Suffolk to 600gns and again at 580gns. Mark Lloyd, Sarnesfield showed his normal consignment of quality Charolais topping at 560gns and twice at 540gns.

Derek Farr, vendor topped his Texel's at 500gns with others at 490gns. Messrs Greenow and Ferguson sold Suffolk to 440gns. Keiron Jones consigned a nice pen of Texel rams and sold to 320gns.

Again selling for the first time at Hay was Mr Peter Elkington, Ashperton selling Beltex cross to 500gns twice. In all rams averaged first short of £500.

Judging once again competently carried out by Mr John Bishop and Clive Meredith. Results as follows:-

Class 1 – Best Texel Ram 1s B and D Edwards, Upper Penwaun 680gns; 2nd B and D Edwards, Upper Penwaun 700gns; 3rd DJ Farr, The Vedw 500gns.

Class 2 – Best Charollais Ram 1st DJ Farr, The Vedw 490gns; 2nd LE Lloyd and Sons, Sarnesfield 560gns; 3rd LE Lloyd and Sons, Sarnesfield 540gns.

Class 3 – Best Suffolk Ram 1st Mr M Pugh, Sheepcote 600gns; 2nd A Greenow and L Ferguson 400gns; 3rd A Greenow and L Ferguson 400gns.
