PRIME Lambs - 1948: A very good trade on the best meated lambs but far too many leaner sorts and 10p/kg between the standards and mediums.

SQQ 181.5p, but all good meated lambs 185p+ to a top of 207p, 42kg - £87, heavies to £98, £97.50, £95.50, £95 etc.

Euro at 87p keeps export trade buoyant but more good meated lambs needed. 2500+ needed every week.

Breeding ewes - 1320: A larger entry of good quality ewes with a nice selection of yearling and older sorts.

Texel ewes sold to £142 for a small pen of pure bred yearlings.

Throughout the sale light faced ewes sold well with stronger yearlings from £120 to £134.

Smaller sorts from £89 to £118. Suffolk cross yearlings topped at £130, better sorts chiefly from £110 to £125.

Harder bred yearlings from £85 to £105. Just a few North Country Mule yearlings sold at £130 and £120.

Some well backed lowland ewes met a good enquiry throughout topping at £123 for strong Suffolk cross Mule 3 and 4 year olds.

Others from £98 to £114.

The largest draft consignment of 3 and 4 year olds saw Texel cross sell to £118, others from £85 to £117.

Mule 3 and 4 year olds sold to £104 with several from £84 to £95.

Full mouth ewes throughout the sale £75 to £89.

The retirement sale of Dorset ewes having been with Dorset rams for 2 months sold from £64 to £91.

Ewe lambs from £55 to £70. Virtually a total clearance.

Store lambs - 2633: A huge August entry with a feature of the sale the tremendous runs of lambs on offer from several vendors.

Like the previous two weeks bunches of level lambs a real trade throughout with men keen to buy these bunches.

Single pens with plainer and harder bred sheep slightly harder to place, however still looking well sold.

As grass locally is getting less the money on offer for well bred stores looks too good to resist.

A good crowd of men both local and distant with customers from west Wales to the south east.

Strong stores from £67 to £75. Several lambs around the £70 mark.

Good farming lambs look well sold and traded from £62 to £66.50.

A good run of Texel cross Cheviots from one vendor traded from £63 to £69.50.

Aberfield wethers to £64.20. Suffolk cross Mules to £70.

Medium keeping lambs from £56 to £61.50 with level bunches a premium.

Lambs also needing to have some condition and not too backward.

Well bred longer keeping lambs from £50 to £55.

Harder bred lambs generally £40 to £54, depending on frame and condition.

Hill bred sorts £37 to £45.

Small and plain lambs £35 to £42.

Strong ram lambs few and far between selling to £75, other bunches from £62 to £70 with condition vital for higher prices.

Farming sorts from £54 to £60. Harder bred and hill bred sorts generally £44 to £52, small and plain sorts £37 to £42.

Two pens of Suffolk cross North Country Mule ewe lambs were strong and nice headed and topped at £93. A pen of Texels to £77. Overall average £60.27.

Cull ewes - 2011: Another lovely entry of ewes sold to another buoyant trade throughout.

All types in excellent demand with several grazing jobs on go.

Ewes topped at £117/head with plenty of those Texel types in excess of £100/head.

Those best meated types in strongest demand and we even had Welsh cross Cheviot ewes to £76/head!

Rams also a stronger trade up to £123 ready for the upcoming festival.

REaring/weaned calves - 42: A good selection of both rearing and older sorts with 18 under 42 days selling to £340 for a Limousin cross bull out of a Friesian cow.

Other bulls from the same farm £290 to £315.

Calves generally less money on the week with other continental cross bulls from £200 to £290.

Angus and Welsh Black bulls from £130 to £200.

Heifers sold well topping at £315 on two occasions for Limousin cross, better continental crosses £290 to £310.

Smaller heifer calves from £190 to £220.

A super consignment of British Blue cross heifers, 7/9 months topped at £660 on two occasions with other smarter sorts from £550 to £610.

A Hereford cross heifer sold at £520. 2 Limousin cross heifers out of sucklers (3-4 months) sold at £480 and £570. Angus bulls of similar age £300 to £365.
