PRIME Lambs - 1769: A very good quality entry of show sheep with the best at 251p, £98 for 39kg, SQQ 178.5p.

With the Three Counties Show usually comes a drop in lamb trade and coupled with being in the middle of Ramadan, the drop came! Meat and weight still so important and selling lighter unfinished lambs is false economy. Heavies a good trade - 51kg at £87, 50kg at £85, 53kg at £85, 48kg at £84, 47.5kg at £84. 2000+ needed every week.

Ewes and lambs - 207 and 222: Another good seasonal entry of couples all sold to keen interest from a large crowd of buyers. Top price of £200 for a pure Texel, full mouth with her twin lambs with other best sorts from the same farm being £154 to £172.

The entry included 132 hoggs with their lambs which all sold well topping at £150 for Welsh Mules, other similar pens from £134 to £140. Texel cross hoggs with their single lambs ranged from £125 to £130. Suffolk cross hoggs sold to £148, with harder bred sorts from £102 to £120.

Hill type ewes with stronger single lambs sold from £88 to £106, with other older lowland ewes from £91 to £117. A total clearance to average £118.15/couple, £57.01/life.

Store lambs - 164: The larger entry included a large draft of continental cross mixed lambs which sold well to several potential bidders from £49.20 to £60.80. Rearing/weaned calves - 10: Disappointing not to see more entries - a good crowd with bidders for all sorts. Rearing calves sold to £380 for a Charolais cross bull at 33 days, all others were heifers and sold to £290 for a British Blue cross. Others were smaller and sold from £120 to £200.
