McCARTNEYS report a smaller seasonal entry of store cattle at Kington for their June sale held on June 7.

We had a successful sale of store cattle at Kington with 100% clearance and a good attendance of buyers.

The entry of cattle was mainly older, heavy and plainer sorts which sold to a good trade compared to the fat cattle trade.

The cattle weighed up to 700kg with many weighing 550 to 650kg.

June cattle prices were as follows;

Steers sold up to £2.17ppk for some 16 month old Charolias cross steers from JP and JA Davies.

Heifers sold up to £1.97ppk for some 16 month old Charolais cross heifers from JP and JA Davies

All cattle forward at the sale averaged a very good £1000 per head.

Steers averaged £1020 per head up to £1200 per head for some 24 month old Charolais cross Steers from AM and GJ Probert.

Heifers averaged £915 per head up to £1165 per head for some 25 month old Limousin cross heifers from WS Croose and Partners.

Farm assurance is very important on store cattle and premiums were also being paid for those cattle which would meet the super market specs when finished.

In our July sale of Store cattle, feeding bulls, cull cows and cows and calves we expect a good trade and guaranteed support from buyers.

Please note all cattle over 42 days of age will need to be pre-movement tested for TB purposes within 60 days prior to their movement.

The July sale will be held on July 5 at 11am and entries for the catalogue close on June 28 at 5pm.
