As the trade does its usual thing it is even more important to provide the right weight and meat to maximise your return, another 'coat of paint' will always pay off.

Ewes and lambs - 208 and 255: A smaller entry of couples which is certainly to be expected as we are now in the second week of June. A bunch of Mule yearlings last autumn topped the ewes and lambs at £188. Suffolk cross Mules from the same home to £170. A bunch of Texel cross ewes with singles to £130 (£65/life).

Smaller hoggs and lambs from £95 to £120 and look the dearest sold.

Store lambs - 57: The first entry of store lambs met good interest as grass continues to be plentiful. The lambs were mostly ram lambs which does limit customers, however topped at £50. Others trading from £46.50 to £47.80. A pen of smaller lambs at £44.80.

Cull ewes - 2350: A superb entry of ewes and even though the festival has started the ewes were still an excellent trade topping at £127/head. Plenty of ewes in excess of £100/head. There was a majority of plain ewes including runs of Speckle and Welsh ewes which has eased the overall average to £66/head, but those strong Suffolk ewes would still be up to £95/head. All types in strong demand and plenty of buyers ensuring this competitive trade from start to finish.

Cull rams up to £126/head and several £100 to £115/head. The trade is likely to ease for the next two weeks, over the fasting period, however it is envisaged that the trade will lift again towards the end of the festival.
