McCARTNEY'S of Kington report a good entry of 2432 sheep on May 5.

We had a very good entry of sheep which sold to an increased trade in all sections which is good to see.

Hoggets: We had a good entry of 1453 hogget's which sold to an increased trade on the week.

The hoggs on offer were again heavier with very few under 45kgs. Meat continues to be key to a good trade.

The heavier hoggets were in good demand by the buyers and the 50kg and overs would sell from £95 to £105.50 per head.

Lighter weight hoggets between 38kg and 42kg would be selling between £1.90 to £2.00ppk.

The hogget's averaged a good £1.88ppk and sold up to £2.00ppk for some 49kg hogget's from Graham Morgan.

All the hoggets averaged £89 per head up to £105.50 per head for some 60kg hogget's from WH Powell and Son.

Hogget's between 32.5kg to 39kg averaged 1.85ppk up to 1.92ppk.

Hogget's between 39.1kg to 45.5kg averaged 1.89ppk up to 1.96ppk.

Hogget's between 45.6kg to 52kg averaged 1.86ppk up to 2.00ppk.

Hogget's over 52kg averaged 1.80ppk up to 1.89ppk.

Spring Lambs: We had a good entry of 392 spring lambs which sold to a very good trade on the week.

The lambs were in very good demand by the buyers in all weight ranges.

The overall SQQ averaged was £2.34ppk.

The buyers are looking for lambs between 37kg to 42kg to obtain premium market prices.

All the lambs averaged £92 per head up to £99 per head for some 41kg lambs from Beman Bros.

Lambs between 32.5kg to 39kg averaged 2.32ppk up to 2.35ppk.

Lambs between 39.1kg to 45.5kg averaged 2.34ppk up to 2.42ppk.

Lambs between 45.6kg to 52kg averaged 2.10ppk up to 2.10ppk.

Cull ewes, tups, wethers, store lambs: There was a good entry of 497 cull and store sheep, which sold to an excellent trade on the week.

The ewes would be about £10 a head stronger this week on all sorts.

The cull sheep sold to a top of £129 per head for some Texel cross ewes from G and J Probert and averaged an excellent £84 per head.

Continental ewes averaged £120 per head and sold up to £129 per head.

Mule types ewes averaged £78 per head and sold up to £99 per head.

Welsh, Speckle and smaller hill type ewes averaged £59 per head and sold up to £69 per head.

Tups averaged an excellent £120 per head and sold up to £139 per head.

Small Store hoggets averaged £57 per head up to £68 per head.

Light lambs under 32kg averages 1.85ppk.

We have buyers requiring store hoggets and light hoggets each week to suffice their orders.

We have buyers for in excess of 3000 hoggets and lambs and 750 cull sheep per week to meet our buyers' requirements.
