312 STORE cattle: A good entry of predominately dairy bred cattle met a fast trade, especially on stronger feeding cattle 400kg plus.

Steers topped at £1,215 for a Limousin cross steer (21 months) from Mrs K Davies. Better quality single suckle homebred steers were in short supply and therefore met premium prices topping at 232 pence per kilo for a consignment of Blonde D'Aquitaine cross steers from Mesr RM and JL Newman.

Strongest demand was seen on 400 kg steers selling between 190 - 230 pence. Many stronger farming steers achieved prices of £1,215, £1,145, £1,120, £1,080, etc.

Overall steers averaged 192 pence per kilo and £885 per head.

Again heifers were predominately dairy cross with frame and quality demanded from buyers. They sold to £1,140 for a bunch of Simmental heifers (26 months, 550 kg) from Mr PJ Waters. Stronger heifers proved easy to place achieving prices of £1,140, £1,105, £1,050, £1,040, etc.

The most difficult to place were eight to 15 month native and dairy bred heifers, lacking quality, sold between £580 - £820.

Top price per kilo on heifers was 215 pence.

Overall heifers averaged 180 pence and £785 per head.

A run of 17 pure bred Simmental bulls met very strong demand achieving a top price of £970 (eight to nine months, 420 kg). Overall bulls averaged 222 pence per kilo.

438 store lambs: A shorter entry of store lambs met an easier trade than the previous sale, reflecting the falling finished lamb trade.

Ewe lambs sold to £80 for a run of Suffolk cross ewe lambs.

Store lambs were predominately made up from longer term farming lambs selling to between £48 - £55.

More store lambs could have easily been sold.

Rearing calves: A small show of calves met a strong trade despite the lack of quality.

Friesian bulls sold twice at £70, Hereford cross heifers to £160 and Hereford cross bulls to £250.

More calves required to meet demand from buyers. Please enter your stock prior to the sale date if possible so we can notify buyers of the entries.
