80 finished cattle (40 clean cattle, 40 over 36 month cattle and cull cows): As usual a very short entry of cattle for the Red Market. There was a very mixed bag of cattle with only a few good sorts which peaked at 216 pence.

Top price per kilo: 216 pence for an entry from Mesr HA Staight and Son, Hartpury.

Top price per head: £1,374.56 for an entry from the same vendor.

40 cull cows, and over 36 month clean: A similar entry of cull cattle sold to a good trade. The entry was dominated by Black and Whites which sold to 125 pence. Better beef cows to 139 pence.

1105 lambs: A stronger entry of lambs met an easier trade than previous weeks with a top price of 156 pence and £70 per head. Lamb buyers were reluctant to pay more than150 pence per kilo due to lack of demand from retailers. Overall SQQ was 143.7 pence per kilo. The overall average price of lambs was £65.80 per head (average weight 46 kilos).

Top price of lambs per head: £70 for an entry from Mesr GC and GY Jones, Chepstow.

217 cull ewes and rams: A short entry of ewes met another similar trade. Strong ewes found the best demand with continentals selling to £92. Once again a large number of small and plain ewes forward reduced the overall average to £56. First quality ewes sold from £75. Second quality sold from £50. Small and plain ewes sold to this figure. Goats sold to £53.
