LEDBURY residents and those from further afield threw their weight behind the most important meal of the day.

Businesses from restaurants to butchers celebrated the Ledbury Big Breakfast last Friday and Saturday.

The event was organised by Ledbury Food Group in association with the national Breakfast Week.

“We are pleased that so many people braved the weather to join us again to celebrate breakfast and the wonderful range of local food products that we enjoy," said Griff Holliday from the food group.

The event kicked off with a breakfast for businesses in the area at the Cameron and Swann cafe on The Homend, plus a special staff breakfast at John Masefield High School.

Those attending events included the town's MP, Bill Wiggin, and town mayor, Bob Barnes.

Bill Turberfield, the town crier, was on hand to hail the winning sausage in a competition run by Trumpet Corner Tearoom and Llandinabo Farm Shop.

The winning creation was a pork, bacon, liver and onion variety suggested by Trumpet Corner customer Alan Brown, who won a free breakfast for the idea.

Many businesses outside Ledbury took part including the Scrumpy House Restaurant at Weston’s Cider, and The Nest on the Hereford Road.
