A TUG of war pair are to pull Herefordshire YFC into a new year.

County chairman will be Sophie Clarke, of Saltmarshe YFC with Jess Wright, of Lugg Valley YFC her vice-chairman.

Sophie is a primary school teacher and Jess - current National Senior Member of the Year - a self employed book keeper.

Both were officers on the 2011-2012 competitions committee and have competed together in area and national tug of war competitions.

The pair pick up the reins from Amelia Illingsworth, of Golden Valley YFC, who described her term of office as an "absolute whirlwind" of a year that saw membership numbers up.

"I’d like to congratulate the clubs on all they have achieved and hope that they continue to give the same support to Sophie and Jess as they did to me," she said.

Amelia’s term ended at the federation’s recent AGM in Hereford Town Hall.

There, Dilwyn YFC won the Hereford Times Efficiency Shield followed by Kington YFC with Lugg Valley YFC in third place.

The Proficiency Shield was awarded to Woolhope, with Golden Valley 2nd & Hereford 3rd.

A presentation was made to Lucinda Rees, who finished working for the Federation after over 20 years of loyal service.

The federation calendar continues to be as busy as ever with speaking competitions taking place this month as well as members competing in National Finals at the English Winter Fair in Staffordshire.

On November 21 the federation’s variety night returns.
