Kington CE Primary School awarded International Schools Status by British Council

AN international book writing project has helped open a new chapter for a village school.

Kingsland CE Primary School, which has been working on the book with Moivaro Primary School in Tanzania, has been awarded International Schools Status by the British Council.

This recognises the global dimension in the school’s curriculum and the book called Opening Doors Between Our Worlds will have chapters about schools, homes, food and farming.

The two schools also learn from each other throught visits, letters and photos.

“It is fantastic for us to really understand that although our lifestyles are different in many ways we share so much in common,” said headteacher Angela Daniel.

“The children write to each other about things such as supporting the same English premiership football team, their love of drawing or their love for their families.”

The school’s curriculum also includes Indian dance and music, the traditions of Chinese new year and the sounds of the Caribbean.

Its global schools co-ordinator, Helen Wilson, received the award from BBC newsreader George Alagiah at a British Council ceremony in London.
