STAFF and pupils at Weobley High School have turned eco-pioneers after becoming the first in Herefordshire to receive two Eco Schools Green Flag awards.
While other local centres have been recognised by the scheme, Weobley is the only one to be praised a second time after the environmental performance of the school and wider community was further improved.
The accolade – which shows students are continually working to reduce its impact on the environment through recycling and other energy saving measures – comes after Eco School co-ordinator Jane Denny won the Pride of Herefordshire Environmental Champion Award for work at Weobley and Eco Schools countywide.
The introduction of activities such as eco-themed assemblies, on-site gardening and litter picks around the community also helped secure the new status. The school is well on the way to meeting Government targets which say all schools should be sustainable by 2020.
