OFSTED has saluted a Hereford primary school as an outstanding example to the community it serves.
Marlbrook Primary School, Redhill, earned 29 outstanding scores from the 33 categories that Ofsted awards marks on, particularly those grading pupil progress.
Two more outstanding scores were awarded for the school’s overall effectiveness and that of its early years classes.
The report specifically cites the background against which the school – a large urban primary serving surrounding estates – scores so highly, with the number of pupils eligible for free school meals and identified as having learning disabilities being well above average.
That earns the report’s recognition of the wider contribution Marlbrook makes to its community through its breakfast club and kids club, while the pupils themselves are praised as “polite, friendly and responsible”.
Inspectors make particular note of high expectations adults have for their charges and the “purposeful buzz” in lessons.
In turn, there is plenty of “kind, caring”
support for pupils who find work challenging, with excellent teaching and strong leadership.
However, the inspectors’ report wants to see the narrowing of a gap between standards in reading and writing.
