WORK on a new £8 million pound South Wye school is nearing completion.
The finishing touches are currently being put to Riverside School on Belmont Avenue which will cater for more than 600 children.
It is expected to be open by the end of September.
The school replaces the old Hunderton Junior and Infant School and includes larger-than-average rooms built around a courtyard where PE and other outdoor learning activities can take place.
Other features include underfloor heating, a purpose- built music room and state-of-the-art information computer technology facilities.
“It really is beginning to take shape now and is causing great excitement as children and staff see their dreams becoming a reality,” said headteacher Jim Preston.
“Our children and families have waited a long time for this.”
Last December, Herefordshire Council appointed Worcester-based contractor Spicers to complete the building work after Pettifer Construction, which was undertaking the project, ceased trading.
