Monet’s garden brought to life in Clehonger

PUPILS and parents from a Herefordshire school have been getting their fingers dirty.

The nature garden at Clehonger C of E Primary School was created by a group of parents over the summer holidays and children planted some of the beds last week.

One of the parents, Sally Bounds, led the project to improve the school grounds and the existing area was revamped by a group of volunteers using £500 of Parent Teachers Association funds.

Funding was then in place to create a nature and sensory garden and to install a sun shelter within the adventure playground area.

More than £9,500 was granted from the National Lottery and £1,500 from the Sylvia Short Educational Charity.

There is a pond with a viewing platform and a Monet-style bridge, raised platform areas and pathways enclosed within an attractive fence.

Mrs Bounds said: “The nature garden enhances the children’s educational opportunities in a safe and secure environment.”
