QUEEN Elizabeth Humanities College is crucial to the future of Bromyard, according to a leading county figure.

Three months after being shortlisted for closure, the college is now one of the best-equipped schools in Herefordshire, with state-of-the art classrooms and computer systems.

The school was re-launched as a specialist humanities college by guest of honour, Clive Richards, who provided major sponsorship.

He told guests that the college was vital to the life of the town, before presenting a £50,000 cheque to headteacher Adrian Long.

"With the generosity of Clive Richards we are able to offer our students access to the most up-to-date information and computer technology available," said Mr Long.

"The college will continue to offer local youngsters in Bromyard and the surrounding villages excellent opportunities for educational achievement."
