A RECORD number of Hereford Sixth Form College students have been offered places to study at Oxbridge universities.

A total of 21 pupils have received offers from 57 applicants from universities in Oxford and Cambridge.

Principal, Peter Cooper said: “I am absolutely delighted that our success has been continued and extended. This is a tribute first and foremost to our students for their ambition in applying to the most competitive universities, for their tenacity in negotiating the application process and successfully demonstrating their academic potential.

"Our students are encouraged to be aspirational both by our staff and by the universities themselves; and of course parents and guardians also play a key role. Of our early applicants who did not receive Oxbridge offers, all have however already been offered places at other leading universities including Imperial, Warwick, Bristol and Birmingham."

Oxford and Cambridge run outreach programmes including subject specific study days and summer schools; and Hereford Sixth Form College is the regional hub for Cambridge’s “HE+” programme of extension lessons in Hereford and master classes with Cambridge academics.
