A HEREFORD couple are among thousands of Monarch customers stranded abroad.

Phil and Jan Holland had been due to fly from Malaga to Birmingham this afternoon.

But the holidaymakers received a text from the airline at 5.22 this morning informing them that their flight from Spain would not go ahead.

Accountants KPMG announced today that Monarch was being placed into administration and that all further flights were cancelled.

That decision left 110,000 Monarch customers with no obvious way of returning back to the UK.

The Hollands, from Kings Acre, are now at Malaga airport.

Mrs Holland said there are large queues but the stranded passengers are being informed of the latest developments.

The Civil Aviation Authority is organising the repatriation of the tourists and making flights available.

"They have put one flight on to Manchester but we were not put on that one," said Mrs Holland.

"We have been told to stand in a queue with other passengers and they are hoping to put us on another later flight to Manchester.

"We have been told that transport will then be put on to take people to Birmingham."

"There's not a lot we can do at the moment but it does seem fairly well organised.

"I wouldn't mind a cup of tea and a piece of cake though!"
