THE pilot carrying out the flypast on Armed Forces Day in Hereford is from the county.

Andy Preece, who went to Aylestone School, will by completing the flypast in a Second World War Spitfire at 1.50pm on Saturday.

He will be coming from the direction of the cathedral and completing three passes over the city centre.

It will be the highlight of an event-packed day from 10am to 3pm.

There will be military vehicles and stalls in High Town along with performances throughout the day by the Band and Bugles of The Rifles and the Starlight Dance Company.

There will also be other events taking place at the Shirehall, including military support groups and refreshments provided by the Base Camp project.

Chairman of Herefordshire Council, Brian Wilcox, said: "Herefordshire Council will be showing their continued support for all sections of the British Armed Forces, their families and veterans: all of whom are giving and have given tremendous service to the country."

There is a free concert featuring the Marches Military Wives Choir, Stretton Sugwas Primary School and Hereford Academy bands and the Shire boys at 7pm in the Shire Hall. No ticket is required.
