RESIDENTS in Kington have received awards for their 'outstanding voluntary service' within the local community

The Kington Town Council's Civic Award this year saw three joint awards presented by retiring Mayor Elizabeth Banks.

Chrissie Johnston, Christian Price and Steve Reynolds all received the accolade for their service to the community.

Ms Johnston’s honour was for her many years of service as a community first responder.

As a practice nurse, employed at Kington Medical Practice, Ms Johnston has an excellent knowledge of the area and is a familiar face to many residents – a welcome relief in any medical emergency.

There are only two trained first responders in the Kington area and more would be welcome.

Mr Reynold’s nomination was for his volunteer work as the town’s flag master. This is an unusual job, that he has carried out for a number of years. The flag master must climb to the top of the town’s Market Hall building, scaling ladders and step ladders, to raise or lower the flag for any civic or non-civic occasion requiring flags to be flown.

Mr Price’s award was for his volunteer work as the winder of the town clock on the Market Hall building. This is also a job necessitating a climb to the top of the town’s Market Hall building, to gain access to the clock mechanism. Mr Price has carried out this duty for over 12 years.
