WHILE those we spoke to face to face insisted they had not changed their minds about Brexit at all, a different picture emerged from the poll on our website.

We asked readers how they would vote, given all the information they have had now.

A total of 3,992 people took part and a majority of 76 per cent said they would vote to Remain.

A further 24 per cent said they would vote to leave while the remaining one per cent said they would not vote.

Even when we discount multiple voting (those who feel strongly enough to return time and time again to cast a vote), the figures still work out at a big Remain majority - 74 per cent to stay in the EU and 25 per cent Leave. The remaining one per cent would not vote.

We don’t claim that the poll is scientific and we certainly don’t claim that these results would be echoed in a real referendum.

But it probably does show the continued strength of feeling, with many people having shared their concerns about a future UK outside the EU.

In the comments section on our website some questioned the purpose of the poll, but there was also evidence of how people have changed their minds - both ways.

One commenter, badgerxx said: “I voted to leave originally, but was on the fence. I was swayed by the thought of the £350 million quid for the NHS - let’s face it, it needs some decent investment.

“So, after being lied to on that I’ve lost all faith in the Leave crowd, especially now David Davis says he’s not really planned what might happen without a deal - for all he cares we could crash and burn and it seems like he doesn’t care less. So, I’d remain now.”

AndalucianStar, said: “I voted to remain in the referendum, purely due to economic concerns. It was a head over heart decision. I am now glad that we are leaving. The EU is undemocratic with too much power resting with the large nations effectively bullying the smaller ones.

They don’t listen to the people, they make no attempt to address people’s concerns. As a project it is dying because of this. People are losing faith and patience with it. I love Europe but not the EU.”
