OVERNIGHT work to install ducts for a new pedestrian crossing – which will lead to a fourth set of traffic lights on part of the A49 in Hereford – is to start this week.

Two-way traffic lights will be in place between the junction of Penhaligon Way and the junction of Prior Street on Edgar Street between 8pm and 6am from today (Monday) until Friday.

A new pedestrian crossing will be installed at the location of Prior Street across the A49 at a later date but this will not be functional until the Link Road project is completed late 2017/early 2018.

It will mean a fourth set of traffic lights on Edgar Street.

Andrew Davies, project manager with Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, said: “This necessary work to install the ducts for the new crossing will be performed at night to minimise disruption to road users.

"WPD is also taking the opportunity to ensure all their planned works in the area are completed at the same time, which will help prevent future disruption to residents and businesses."

He said significant delays are not expected but anyone travelling during the evenings may wish to use alternative routes.

“We once again thank the public for their patience while we continue with the City Link Road’s construction,” he added.
