A RURAL county school has been named in a national glossy magazine's guide to the best state primary schools this year.

Llangrove CE Academy, near Ross-on-Wye, was named in the list of ten in Tatler magazine.

The magazine writes: "A teeny-tiny school with just over 50 pupils in three classes - but golly, it's a good one."

The head of school and teachers are praised in the piece, as is the IT provision.

Sarah Dean, head of school, said a parent of a pupil nominated the school to be named in the list and after sending further information to the magazine, the school was selected.

Mrs Dean said: "We are thrilled and it is lovely that a parent had recommended us for it.

"It has been nothing but positive. Everyone within the community and the other schools in our federation are thrilled for us as well."

There are 52 pupils at the school and three classes. The teaching staff include Mrs Dean, Ed Fox and Simon Preddy.

Mrs Dean added: "The children here are lovely. The staff work brilliantly with them to make sure all the children engage and that they are involved in learning.

"There is also a lovely school environment and village environment to support the learning as well."
