A MUM who has struggled with alcoholism was caught drink-driving.

Catherine Jones, 49, of Garden Close, Kington was stopped on the A4111 in Kington on June 15 when officers saw her weaving across the road.

A blood sample showed she had 229mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood- the legal limit is 80mg.

Jones appeared at Herefordshire Magistrates Court as a prisoner, as she had been arrested after not turning up for court on October 7.

Emily Gourlay, defending, said her client had told her she had been too drunk to attend.

Jones had a previous drink-drink conviction from June 2013 and was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

Dan Barratt, probation officer, said she had been living with her husband and daughter, but was currently not living at the home address.

The court heard she was a teacher for 28 years but then suffered a nervous breakdown and had suffered with depression for two years.

She booked herself into rehab in both May and September, but it did not help.

Mrs Gourley said: "She accepts alcohol has taken over her life, particularly in the last six months."

Magistrates gave Jones a community order for 12 months, with a three month alcohol treatment requirement and five rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She was disqualified from driving for 42 months, with the option of reducing it by 10 months if she takes a course.

She was ordered to pay £40 for the bail act offence and also £135 prosecution costs and £85 victim surcharge.
