A 30-YEAR-old who sold DVDs belonging to his landlady and then resisted arrest has been given a community order.

Richard Tweeddale of Mayberry Avenue, Hereford pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis, obstructing a constable in his duty- both on August 26, and for stealing five DVDs to the value of £34.45 on July 13.

At Herefordshire Magistrates Court Rob Perry, prosecuting, said Tweeddale took five DVDs from his previous landlady, Anne Eggerton, which she was going to post back to Sky. He then sold them at a shop in town.

When police went to arrest Tweeddale for the offence, he resisted arrest and officers had to use incapacitant spray.

When he was searched a small amount of cannabis was found.

He had previous convictions, including assaulting a police officer and theft.

Marilena Divitantonio, defending, said Tweeddale was not receiving benefits at the time as he had lost his card, and needed money to buy food and essentials. She said he intended to pay the money back.

He was given a community order for 12 months, to include 100 hours of unpaid work and 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He was ordered to pay £135 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
