A CARE home near Ross-on-Wye has been praised by an independent watchdog for personalising its service to meet individual needs.

Weir End House care home in Glewstone has been rated as ‘good’ for the quality of its care by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which regulates health and care services.

The home was praised for the positive relationships the people they support have with staff, supporting people to pursue their interests, and its Your Voice meetings.

The CQC said the residents spoke highly of the staff to inspectors and that the care is personalised to meet every individual’s needs.

The CQC said: "Relatives we spoke with told us that staff knew people well."

Residents are supported to pursue their own interests, such as shopping in the nearby town.

Staff also arranged for a fitness company to visit the home and offer sessions in activities such as yoga, tai chi and netball.

Residents have the opportunity to attend monthly Your Voice meetings, where they can raise any comments or ideas they have. A recent Your Voice meeting resulted in a garden party being arranged for residents.

The home is managed by Craegmoor, part of the world-famous Priory Group, and provides support for individuals who have learning disabilities, mental health problems, autism and behaviours that challenge.

Kirsty Priest, acting service manager, said: “I am proud of our staff and the people we support.

"We pride ourselves on enabling our residents to do the things they enjoy, so I am pleased that the individualised approach to the support we offer has been praised by the CQC."
