PEOPLE gathered at Yat Rock to join one determined campaigner on his mission to stop fracking in Herefordshire.

Llanwarne resident, Rick Guest, set off from Hereford last Wednesday to walk to Hoarwithy, before canoeing down the River Wye to Symonds Yat.

Dressed as Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, he is spreading his opposition to fracking for gas around Symonds Yat, Welsh Newton and Ross-on-Wye.

On Saturday at Yat Rock he was joined by many other campaigners from Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and the UK.

Mr Guest said: “We need to be very clear about decisions we make at this crucial time in history and consider the legacy we hand to future generations.

"This is the time to say to looters and polluters – 'They shall not pass.'"

There were representatives from a dozen counties including the Lancashire ‘Nanas’, a group of grandmothers who have been fighting fracking in their community for more than five years.

More than 200 people signed a pledge against oil and gas exploration in the county.

South Western Energy has formally been issued a government licence to explore for gas and oil in the Wye Valley and its neighbouring Forest of Dean.

The next stage of Mr Guest's quest will take place on Monday, August 29 when he journeys from Symonds Yat across the Forest of Dean by foot and by bike then on to Stroud, Cirencester, Oxford and finally Westminster where he will take his message - Don’t Frack the Shires! – to Teresa May in Downing Street.
