THE mother of a Hereford boy who died suddenly says she thinks his death was down to a choking ‘game’.

Louise Hembrow tried to resuscitate 10-year-old Alfie Hyett at their Hereford home back in March but he died at Hereford County Hospital.

This week she told a radio station that she is trying to raise awareness of the game.

“It seems to be boy-related, and when you know they are talking about it then there’s going to be one boy that does it and, sadly, I think it was Alfie,” she said.

An inquest into the death of Alfie, who went to St Thomas Cantilupe School in Hereford, was opened and adjourned on March 16, when a post-mortem report noted the cause of death as vagal inhibition.

This is a condition that causes the stopping of the heart by stimulation of the vagus nerve in the neck.

It can be caused by pressure on the neck.

Louise, and Alfie’s dad, Nick Hyett, released a statement shortly after their son died, saying: “He was our world, our life and the smartest boy in town.

“The hole he has left in his friends and family’s heart will never be filled.”

Alfie was described as an active boy and keen footballer and he used to play for the Hereford City Sky Blues junior team.
