A HEREFORD man who was diagnosed with a fatal illness has raised more than £700 for a charity based at Hereford County Hospital.

Mark Hill, 54, from Hunderton Road organised a park run and walk earlier in the year to raise money for the Herefordshire Chest Fund, which promotes the relief and rehabilitation of people suffering from any form of disease of the chest.

Mr Hill was first diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) eight years ago, which is a rare and poorly understood lung condition for which there is no cure.

He has since been diagnosed with cardiac sarcoidosis and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

He raised £716.50 from the 5km run and also from a raffle, which will go towards equipment for detection, staff training and more research into the disease.

He would like to thank The Richmond Club, Print Plus for supplying the certificates, Jenny Jones and Anthony Wathen.

Mr Hill said: "Hopefully I have also raised more awareness of the disease and more people will donate to the chest fund."
