WITH the Ross-on-Wye May Fayre cancelled this year, a woman has stepped forward to run a scaled-down alternative.

The Association of Ross Traders (ART) usually holds the fayre in the centre of the town but decided not to run it this year.

Lynnette Munoz has decided to organise a May Day event, to coincide with the River Festival and the beer and cider festival down at the river during the first Bank Holiday weekend in May.

She said: "I was hoping to organise a fair on the banks of the river- just a small one. I was going to do one anyway and I thought maybe I should do one on May Day.

"When I heard the May Fayre was no longer taking place I thought I could organise a May Day event- it is not the May Fayre."

May Day on the Wye will be held on Sunday, May 1 from 10am to 4pm at the river bank at the Hope and Anchor Inn.

There will be stalls, a bouncy castle, BBQ, Mo the Donkey and more.

She has no budget and is organising it by herself.

She said: "It is possible to do things without spending money, especially because the people at the pub have been so kind to offer me the ground that they own."

Money raised from a raffle will go to SHYPP.
