A CARE service in Ross-on-Wye requires improvement, according to its latest inspection.

The Care Quality Commission inspected Q-Care in Gloucester Road in November.

Inspectors said the service was safe, effective and caring- giving good ratings for all three- but said the service response and management required improvement, which led to the overall rating.

Q-Care in Ross provides personal care and support for 57 people within their own homes in Herefordshire.

The report said: "The provider and manager did not have any systems to monitor the safety and quality of the care and support provided.

"They had failed to address concerns that had been raised by people that used the service."

Staff expressed concern that they did not feel supported by the manager or provider.

People who used the service were not always told when staff were not going to arrive, the inspectors said.

But the staff were praised for being kind and caring, and treating people with dignity and respect.

The report also said that people had a choice over the support they received and nothing was done without their consent.

Inspectors added: "Staff understood the principles of consent and delivered care that was individual to the person."

Robert Ramsaha-Southall, operations director at Q Care Limited, said: "Over the last three months we have had the opportunity to work with the CQC to put into place the requirement outlined in their report.

"We appreciate and fully support the work that the CQC does to improve care services for people across the UK and we look forward to welcoming the CQC back for re-inspection.

"We have a culture of making continual improvements to the services we provide. We are committed to the support of people who use our services and take any concerns very seriously."
