A COUPLE who met through a charity have decided to combine their engagement party with a fundraiser.

Jim Pollard, 49, and Jude Barker, 51, met about ten years through Tools for Self-Reliance Cymru, which is based in Crickhowell.

Two years ago they got together and at New Year they got engaged.

To celebrate, they are holding a weekend party at Broome Cider Farm in Peterstow, near Ross-on-Wye, and are raising money for the charity, which is also celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Mr Pollard said: "It is still going to be our engagement party although I’m not sure how much time we’ll have to relax and enjoy it. But then that’s part of the fun too."

Tools for Self-Reliance Cymru (TFSR Cymru) collect unwanted tools and sewing machines from all over the UK and send tool kits to grass roots community groups in several African countries.

The party named #EngageWithTools will have live music from Dub Pistols, Eat Static, Boyd Clack, Kirsten Jones and a selection of talented original artists.

There will be a chance to see how the charity works and some of the groups and craftspeople they associate with.

It takes place from July 31 to August 1. Tickets are £40, which includes two nights camping from www.goldengiving.com/event/engagewithtools.

On Friday gates open at 12pm, bar opens mid afternoon, bands start at 6pm and closes at midnight. On Saturday gates open 10am, music and bar- midday to midnight.
