PLANNED roadworks on Belmont Road in Hereford have been postponed until after the Three Choirs Festival.

Roadworks were due to start tomorrow (July 24) for four weeks to replace a gas main, but after talks with Herefordshire Council, National Grid agreed to postpone the work for two weeks as the festival will bring extra traffic to the city.

The work will now start on Monday, August 3 and is expected to take four weeks to complete.

There will be two-way traffic lights by the junction with Walnut Tree Avenue to carry out the essential work.

A spokesman for National Grid said: “We will get the job done as quickly as possible and the new pipe will make sure residents continue to have a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”

The Three Choirs Festival takes place in Hereford from July 25 to August 1.
