A BBC radio station visited a country primary school to find out more about a village legend.

Marden Primary Academy welcomed BBC Radio 4, which is recording a series about legends around the country.

The Mermaid of Marden was chosen and pupils sang a song, written by Jill Darby, about the legend for the radio.

The story goes that the mermaid found the village's church bell after it fell into the River Lugg.

She decided not to return it to the locals, who tried to force it from her, and instead hid it in the river, where it is said you can hear its ghostly chimes.

The song will be played as part of the introduction to the legends series. A date for broadcast is yet to be announced.
