HUNDREDS of Herefordians marked Armed Forces Day by turning out in force to events in the centre of Hereford.

Shoppers and military enthusiasts alike attended the annual showpiece which holds particular significance in a city which has such a rich military heritage.

Top of the bill was The Band of the Royal Artillery who played to the public at various times in High Town, the Old Market and the Shirehall.

Also in High Town were military charities along with military vehicles on display, while overhead there was a flypast by a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - a slight adjustment to the programme, as the Dakota which had been due to fly suffered technical problems.

Together with the High Town display was a range of performances at the nearby Shirehall.

Kicking these off was the Marches Military Wives Choir, followed by Stretton Sugwas Primary School, Madley Primary School, St Mary's High School, and the Hereford Police Choir.

Among the invited guests was Lady Darnley, the Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire.

The national Armed Forces Day event was held in Guildford, Surrey which included a service at the city's cathedral, a military parade involving hundreds of Armed Forces personnel, veterans and cadets.

The parade began with a fly-past from the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
