DETECTIVES have put a renewed emphasis on the last minutes of Christian Bagley’s life as they start over in the hunt for his killer.

A 29-year-man man arrested on suspicion of murder was released without charge on Saturday night having been held since last Wednesday.

Now, a week on, the officer heading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Adrian McGee of West Mercia and Warwickshire Major Investigation Team, reinforced the emphasis on Mr Bagley’s last minutes of life in a call to “the conscience of the community”.

"Christian had just been to visit his young daughter on Father's Day when he suffered the fatal stab wounds which caused significant blood loss and subsequently his death.

"Christian spent his last moments trying to save his own life by knocking on doors and calling for help.

"Sadly he was unable to do this and his family will feel the effects for the rest of their lives.

"We now ask for anyone who may have information to come forward to police and help bring those responsible for his death to justice,” he said.

Mr Bagley was found collapsed on a friend’s doorstep in Rogers Avenue, Hunderton, having been stabbed from behind on the pathway beneath Hunderton bridge near the steps up to Great Western Way.

Police were carrying out “anniversary checks” along the Great Western Way and in Hunderton last night.

Mr Bagley’s family also pin their hopes of conscience prompting crucial information “no matter how insignificant” it may seem to keep the investigation running.

Together they say the support from the community and the police has been “overwhelming”.

Mr Bagley’s brother Wayne Wood said: “There are no words to describe how we are feeling as a family. Only time will help to heal the pain we have been suffering since Sunday but nothing will replace the bright, kind and caring man we have lost.

"Christian leaves behind his loving girlfriend, his daughter Lara, two devastated brothers, a sister, his cousins, aunts and uncles, and more devastatingly his loving mother.

"The whole family are overwhelmed by the support shown by the community and we are very grateful to the officers working around the clock on the investigation.

"On behalf of my family I ask if anyone knows anything, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, to please contact the police.”

Sightings related to Mr Bagley’s last minutes between 10.40pm and 10.50pm on Sunday, June 21, are now particularly important to the investigation.

During this time, Mr Bagley, badly wounded and bleeding, doubled back into Hunderton to shout for help and bang on doors before collapsing at the front door of a friend’s house in Rogers Avenue.

The 999 calls started coming in from the estate at  around 10.50pm.

Some 20 minutes earlier, Mr Bagley left an address in Cagebrook Avenue to cross the Wye and head home to Friar Street along Villa Street to Hunderton bridge.

Paramedics and police officers fought to save Mr Bagley on his friend’s doorstep, an effort that continued in the ambulance rushing him to Hereford County Hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after arrival.
