THE traditional St George's Day parade through Hereford city centre by the county's scouts will not take place this year.

Instead, an activity day will be held at Whitecross High School on Saturday where more than 500 boys and girls from the South Marches Scouts will gather.

The move came after younger members were consulted on how they would like to celebrate England's patron saint.

The parade will return next year before alternating each year.

Anna King, district commissioner, said ā€œIā€™m really looking forward to a great day with so many young people enjoying themselves and having the opportunity to try new things.ā€

The district activity day called i-Scout will include sport, outdoor and adventure, craft and scouting skills.

St George, as well as being the patron saint of England, is also the patron saint of The Scout Association.
