A PAINT spill on one Hereford road was far from a work of art.

These photos show the result of what is believed to be more than 10 tins of paint having been spilled across Widemarsh Street.

The spillage happened at around 9.15am on Saturday morning, close to Wickes trade and DIY store.

Adam Phillips, who owns and was working at nearby Play Planet, said he heard a 'loud noise' before he saw around 15 tins of paint splattered across the road.

"I could see they had fallen out of a trailer and they were trying to pick them up and get them away although the people drove off in the end," he said.

"So I rang the police and said they needed to get someone there. People were driving through and paint was going all over the cars."

He was helped by other nearby businesses to put road cones and other safety measures in place before police arrived.

He said Balfour Beatty Living Places were at the scene for around two hours, with a mobile road sweeper.

"People were just hoovering through it," he added.

A spokesman for Herefordshire Council said: "It is estimated that around 40 to 50 litres of paint was spilled.  A team of three attended site from 9am until 1pm to clear site and ensure appropriate traffic management was in place whilst granules and a street sweeper were used to clean the area."
