A SOLAR power community project which will be the first in the UK on a closed landfill site is looking for community investment.

The 1MW solar PV project is being planned for the closed landfill site at Stretton Sugwas following a successful bid from New Leaf.

Dave Prescott of New Leaf said: "The project has the potential to provide all-round benefits: it provides a fair return to investors; makes productive use of marginal land; reduces the carbon footprint of the county; and supports the ongoing work of New Leaf."

With government financial incentives about to change New Leaf are urging Herefordshire residents to contribute.

The first 'Pioneer' funding stage of the project is live- £60,000 is needed from the Community Share Offer to pay for the cost of planning permission and Environment Agency Licences.

The New Leaf solar co-operative is open to anyone to join from £100 and all subscribers become equal members. As long as subscriptions are received by March 30, SEIS tax relief is available with 50 per cent of money invested reclaimable against tax.
