A HEREFORD man who hit the right note when he appeared on BBC television talent show The Voice has dedicated his performance to his family.

Andrew Boucher – an air conditioning engineer by day and pop star impressionist by night – sang himself into the final spot of Will.i.am's team of 12 following a blind audition on Saturday’s show.

Four celebrity judges – including Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson and Rita Ora – listened to him sing without seeing him before American rapper and producer Will.i.am pressed his button to indicate he wanted the Herefordian on his team.

Mr Boucher, 48, whose stage name is Andrew Marc, said of the audition, "I have been buzzing quite a bit – it was a great experience.

"I was a bit nervous and of course going on stage I thought all the places had gone in the team as the coach can only have 12."

He said he thought he was there to 'round the show off' and it took two minutes for him to realise Will.i.am had pressed his button.

"I couldn’t believe it," he added.

Mr Boucher had been busy with funeral preparations in the week running up to the audition after his nan, Josephine Boucher, sadly died.

He said his performance was dedicated to her and the rest of his family, adding that his dad Danny Lee – well-known locally for being behind the track Hereford United (We All Love You) – would have been 'very proud'.

The next stage of the competition – the ‘battle’ – will see Mr Boucher sing with another contestant in his team before his coach decides who will go through to the next round.

Readers can see him on screen next on March 7.
